Friday bass

You know how hooked on bass I am, right? If the answer is yes, you'll probably have a vague idea of what's going on in here right now with this gem.

Uploaded about 3 weeks ago and offered with a free download by djbrevil (Australia strikes again), this tune will definitely give my Friday a boost. Hope yours too.

Car-CD freak

The thing that got me excited the most when I passed the exams for the driver's license in my 18 years of age was that I would be able to listen to some decent music loud, without caring about the volume, the neighbours complaining, my brother or sister studying or my parents wanting to rest. The family car had new speakers at that time -my brother would always take care of these kinda stuff- so getting the freaking license in my hands meant primarily that I would be able to drive around listening to some damn music in peace and secondarily that I would see less and less the inside of a bus from then on. So I started burning CDs for my driving pleasure. Lots of CDs. So many that the glovebox would lean from their weight and all the storage spaces around would be filled day by day with nothing else but CDs. Up to this day, I have six or seven cases of CDs, with each one holding about 20 of them. And all these CDs are filled with mp3 files, so we're talking about approximately 14,000 tracks on my wheels. Why am I telling you all these? Cause today I wanted to listen to this, and I couldn't find it.

This is one of my old skool favorites, which I always remember in the first days of spring, cause it's one of those tracks that could define this sunny, full of ear-to-ear smiles, upbeat season. For me at least.

Spring and butterflies aside, I still have to get rid of some car CDs. The more you have in you car, the more likely you are to get bored to search them through and you get stuck with your recently burnt ones. Don't do the same mistake, people. Save yourselves.

Freaky edit

Ok everybody, everything is back to normal, get back into work, nothin' to see here. Only to listen. And what you're gonna listen now is a hot re-work on a favorite.

Leon Haywood wanted to do something freaky to you back in 1975 and Jay Ru still does. The Irish dude took the '70s sexy groove of the original track and made it a 2014 seductive tune. The sexy and the groove don't go anywhere. Enjoy.

Making up and breaking up and making up and breaking up

Wow. It's been about a week since I've been facing pc problems and as a result I'm not into music digging a lot these days. However, this came to my ears this weekend in a bazaar event I've been to.

Actually, not the whole album, but a track from it, "Making up and breaking up (and making up and breaking up over again)", which is not yet uploaded in youtube and stuff so as to present it to you, except for this live version you'll catch through the link above. Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings' latest album "Give the people what they want" seems to be holding me captive these past few days, as I discover it again and again, each time I listen to it. It's one of those albums that can give birth to more than one favorites. For now I'm sticking with "Making up and breaking up" and we'll see how it goes.

Hung up

I didn't wanna say anything, but I think my internet connection and my pc are getting a divorce. That's why I haven't been around a lot this week. I do sneak into the internet from laptops and smartphones, but I prefer my good ol' desktop pc to do my thing. I'll leave you with this top-notch tune, available for free download, for the next few days though, till I get things back in order.

Isaac Hayes in the hands of SLMDNK in a more up-tempo, pitched version that goes with spring-ish weather and smiling faces. Find the original track here and pick the one that can make you sway the most.

From lovin' to sexy

One of my sister's favorites when she was in her teens was Anita Baker's "Sweet love". Released in 1986, this tune made quite a hit of itself, especially in teenage girls who would hug their pillow with their drama face and listen to this on the radio, in all those love stations. I never really liked it much, I don't know. But this one... Oh, this one I do like.

Magnetic Soul, hosted in this blog a couple of times again in the past, is the usual suspect for this edit. He took a love song and turned it into a sexy tune you can sway to. No hugging pillows to this one.

What would a dumbnation sould like?

If the snare was a bit more intense, this could definitely remind us a bit of Gramatik.

But it ain't Gramatik. It's Es-K and his point of view on a dumbnation. Maybe the only thing that makes a dumbnation sound nice.

Two juicy parts

Australia strikes back with an edit on Mtume's "Juicy fruit" by a favorite of mine, Late Night Tuff Guy (maybe this will refresh your memory).

LNTG himself said he did this edit 2 years ago, but the outcome wasn't satisfying (I'll have to try and take it as a possible incident) so he worked on it. And worked on it. And he came up with this updated version, consisted of two parts (second part kicks off at around 7:00).

If I had to choose between the two parts, I think I'd go with the first one. It feels more juicy, more vivid, more vibrant, but for some reason I can't split it in half as I listen to it. I enjoy all 14 minutes every single time. Every-single-time.

Temptations phase

The Temptations have always been a part of the musical me since an early age, you know, when "My Girl" became a hit for us kids back in 1991 with the homonymous movie. I would really love it if I was born back in the '60s or earlier to catch these kind of tunes real-time, but then again I'd be like 50+ years old now and I would probably have no idea what an edit or a filter is. This is compensate thinking. I have a lot of those.

The previous week I attended a dance workshop concerning dances from an even older time, from the '20s-'30's era with Stephen Sayer and Chandrae Roettig. During a party, these two amazing dancers, decided to dance smooth style lindy to THIS!

To catch a tune like that in a swing party (where I must say, as much as I love lindy hop, swing music isn't givin' me the chills) meant a complete and utter inner explosion. In addition to this, watching Steve&Chanzie dancing to it like that, really finished me off. Enjoy their dance here.

Bottom line: my heart belongs to disco, but my soul definitely goes with soul - and my feet with lindy hop. Weird. I know.
